Laundry Room Makeover

Now that my laundry room is organized, I have a plan to make it prettier and more functional. I'll share my plan with you today; but as always, I expect it to evolve as I go along. Here is my room as it is now.

As you can see, there is plenty of storage, space for hanging clothes, a sink and countertop...all the essentials in a well designed laundry room. However, there are definitely issues that need to be addressed. The curtain rod mounted on the wall was present when we bought the house and is meant to be a drying rack (I think).

We definitely need more space to dry clothes that can't be put in the dryer. So I'm going to mount this drying rack from Ballard Designs on the large blank wall directly over the clothes hamper.

I'm also going to add an ironing board cabinet (surface-mounted) to the same wall. This one has a shelf for an iron as well. Considering how much I hate setting up our huge, squeaky ironing board, this will be a welcome addition!

I'll take down the wall mounted curtain rod and add interest to that wall with a DIY wall stencil project. I plan on recreating this tile pattern on a larger scale on that wall with paint.
I'll use a warm white for the octagons, outline them in a light blue and bring in a tint of the current wall color for the squares.

For the floor, I'm using this rug that comes in a runner (2' x 8') from Pier One Imports.

So that's my plan. I'll show you the finished room soon!
